Pathways of Possibility: Transforming Education’s Role in Reentry was a participatory conference for leaders in the fields of reentry and education, that gathered key representatives from community-based organizations, government agencies, institutions of higher learning, and foundations who seek to transform the role of education in the lives of individuals with current or former criminal justice involvement.
In addition to highlighting the role of education in reducing recidivism, fostering personal transformation, and promoting community revitalization, the conference was framed by principles of collective impact. The day was designed to promote active collaboration among stakeholders committed to making education a core component of all approaches to justice and reentry thereby strengthening the reentry process. The intent was to leverage and mobilize these strategic relationships and networks in order to transform the lives of individuals, break the cycle of justice involvement, strengthen families and communities and enhance public safety.
The conference was generously sponsored by: The New York Reentry Education Network, the Prisoner Reentry Institute, the Center for Institutional and Social Change, the NYC Department of Education District 79 Alternative Schools and Programs, the NYC Department of Probation, the NYC Office of Human Capital Development, College Initiative, College and Community Fellowship, Future Now at Bronx Community College, The Osborne Association, The Center for Employment Opportunities, The Center for Community Alternatives, The Fortune Society, The Doe Fund, and Friends of Island Academy.
